The 1938 Recording King Roy Smeck Model AB-104 Lap Steel Electric Guitar, made by Gibson in Kalamazoo, Michigan, is a rare and collectible instrument from the 1930s. This sunburst-finished lap steel features a maple body, rosewood fingerboard, and the distinctive "Charlie Christian" style blade pickup, offering a rich, powerful tone with great definition. The guitar is housed in its original hard shell case. Roy Smeck, known for endorsing products with strings, lent his name to this model sold through Montgomery Ward's catalog, making it one of the first electric lap steels in this line. Despite its age, this guitar remains in excellent playing condition, offering both vintage charm and high-quality sound.
The circa 1935 Gibson E-100 tube amplifier is a classic vintage piece, featuring a "Jensen Electrodynamic" speaker housed in a striking striped wood case with a durable leather handle. This amplifier retains its original tubes, ensuring an authentic, vintage tone. The original speaker has been professionally re-coned by Northwest Speakers in Smyrna, maintaining the amp’s rich, warm sound. Please note that he back panel is missing. With its timeless design and restored functionality, the Gibson E-100 is a standout piece for collectors and musicians seeking vintage amplification with exceptional tonal character. The original owner of this lap steel and amp bought the pair together brand new in the late 1930's. Both have been serviced by our technician, and is ready for the stage/studio!
