The Digitech Space Station XP300 is a rare and highly sought-after pedal that was part of Digitech's experimental Xpression series, released in the early '90s. This series, born out of the success of the iconic WH-1 Whammy, was designed to explore a new realm of expression pedal-based effects. The series included four distinct pedals: the XP-100 Whammy/Wah, the XP-200 Modulator, the XP-300 Space Station, and the XP-400 Reverberator. Each pedal offered a wide array of sounds, with 30 on the Wah, 35 on the Modulator, 40 on the Space Station, and 50 on the Reverberator. These presets were conveniently listed on the bottom of each pedal.

The XP-300 Space Station stood out as the most experimental and sonically bold of the series. With its 40 presets, the Space Station quickly earned a reputation for being one of the most unique and avant-garde effects pedals of its time. It features an incredible array of sounds, ranging from ethereal synth drops, octave swells, and arpeggiators to ring modulation, reverse playback, and even "alien" sounds. This pedal was so forward-thinking that it’s often credited with predating similar effects like the Earthquaker Devices Rainbow Machine’s Magic setting by two decades.

While the presets cannot be edited, the Space Station allows users to store 6 of their favorite settings for easy access during live performances. It’s a pedal that offers an extensive range of unique tones, including bit crusher sounds that give off a vintage video game-like pixelated effect, as well as string sections and more. The Space Station is a masterclass in experimentation, offering a level of sonic depth and complexity that was ahead of its time.

The Space Station is an incredibly rare and expensive pedal today, but its reputation as a cutting-edge tool for sound design, film scoring, and ambient music remains unmatched. Despite its experimental nature, every preset is deeply musical and can be used to create rich, atmospheric textures or outlandish, otherworldly effects.

Whether you're looking to score a film, create ambient soundscapes, or just embrace the weirdness, the XP300 Space Station offers unparalleled flexibility. It's a pedal that truly needs to be heard to be believed.
