The Epiphone FT-90 El Dorado, produced from 1963 to 1969, is a rare and somewhat obscure model that stands as a slightly upscale sibling to the well-known Epiphone Texan, famously associated with Paul McCartney. With a retail price of $220 in 1965-1966, the El Dorado was positioned above the Texan in Epiphone's lineup, offering a square-shouldered Jumbo body that was a close relative to Gibson's Hummingbird, Dove, and Heritage models. The El Dorado remained largely unchanged throughout its production, though this 1960s version features the narrower nut commonly found on 1966-1969 Gibsons. Its distinctive design and limited production make it a sought-after piece among vintage acoustic collectors.
